Before your tattoo appointment

Tattoo Preparation

Use these notes before your tattoo appointment so your skin is ready, your session is smoother, and you feel more comfortable when you arrive.

Preparing for a tattoo

Before Your Appointment

Stay hydratedHydrated skin takes ink a lot better than dehydrated skin. Drink plenty of water a few days leading up to your appointment.
Shave, if neededIf the area being tattooed has hair, you may shave before your appointment, but avoid irritating or wounding the skin. You may also ask your tattoo artist to shave the area for you.
Shower before your sessionClean skin matters because tattooing creates open skin. Avoid strong perfume as well so everyone can stay comfortable during the appointment.
Moisturize your skinDo not moisturize on the day of your tattoo, but keep your skin moisturized in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydrated, moisturized skin takes ink better and is easier to work with.
Dress for your sessionDress comfortably and dress for the tattoo placement. Avoid restrictive clothing over areas where you plan to get tattooed.

What to Avoid

  • Do not consume alcohol, coffee, aspirin, or blood-thinning medications 24 hours before your session. These can thin your blood and may cause complications.
  • Do not touch your tattoo during your appointment. This may introduce bacteria into open skin.

What to Bring & Know

Bring your I.D.Documentation is required for the appointment.
Bring comfort itemsYou may bring a small blanket or sweater, and headphones if you need a distraction from the pain.

The Stages of Healing

The healing time for eyebrow tattoos typically take around 6–8 weeks and involves several stages. Please note: These are general healing stages and may vary from person to person.

Day 1–3: Inflammatory StageDuring this stage, your eyebrows will be red, swollen, and tender. You may also experience mild bleeding or oozing. This is normal and should subside within 1–3 days.
Day 4–7: Scabbing StageAs the skin begins to heal, it will form scabs over the tattooed area. It may feel itchy, but do not scratch or pick them as it can cause the ink to fade or become patchy.
Day 8–13: Peeling StageThe scabs will begin to peel, revealing a lighter version of the initial brow tattoo. This is also normal and you should continue applying moisturizer/ointment.
Day 14–28: Final Healing StageThe scabs should have completely fallen off, and the skin should have healed. The tattoo brows will appear much lighter in color because the skin is still regenerating. You will notice some color return in a few weeks. Trust the process!

Cosmetic Eyebrow Aftercare

How to take care of your eyebrows after the tattoo procedure.

First 24 hoursAfter getting your eyebrows tattooed, gently blot the area with clean tissue/cotton round to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every few minutes until oozing stops.

Before bedtime, gently wash & dry your brows. Apply a thin layer of ointment as recommended by your artist. Do not use hot water.
First weekClean your eyebrows with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and water. Use gentle dabbing motions. Pat the area dry with a clean towel/tissue and apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment or cream recommended by your artist. Repeat this process twice a day for the first week.
Second weekYou can switch to a lighter moisturizer or continue using the aftercare ointment. Apply it at least twice a day to keep the skin hydrated.
Third weekYour eyebrows should start to scab and peel. This is normal! Do not pick or scratch the scabs. Instead, continue applying ointment/moisturizer until the end of the scabbing phase.

Seek medical care immediately if you develop severe pain, intense swelling, severe redness or warmth at the tattoo site, systemic symptoms like fevers and chills, nausea and vomiting or foul-smelling drainage from the tattoo brows. Also notify your artist should this occur.
